“Fuente de Sabor (Source of Taste) is a bowl for miso soup, gastronomic tradition in Japan.
Formally this bowl wants to be in harmony with current Wabi-Sabi Japanese thought.
The aesthetic characteristics of wabi-sabi include asymmetry, asperity, simplicity, modesty and privacy, and also suggest a natural process.
The use of glass in this piece it’s also intended to create a suggestive dialogue of opposites.
From one side glass is a material that does not alter the taste of food and it’s cold in its solid state; for the other the soup with it’s very distinctive flavour and always served hot.
This game is transmitted through sensory sight, touch and taste. “

“I learned to see the glass from another perspective: it is not a material so delicate as it seems.
It is gentle but also hard, cold and tough.
It ‘was very interesting to find out procedures for development of a piece and his times, by the preparation of a mold until the way to apply the glass, the type of glass, the finishes and the tools we have used. I was amazed at the time you need to create only one piece… because of I work with ceramic I thought there was nothing more laborious and slow. However, the glass passed me!
The experience has impressed me, is a precious material, which is transformed in such a way that if you don’t see it and its processes you can’t understand how a raw material can be converted into a master piece, delicate and subtle features sensitivity of the artisan who makes it.
Glass is a huge world to discover, exciting and valuable which 40plumsa opened for me, a new material that I want to continue to learn and work to be able to incorporate in my work.”

“The creative glass workshop at 40plumas studio has opened a new horizon to the exciting world of this noble material. How photographer I am, illuminator and interested in the lamp design I don’t know any other material that has many properties such as transparency, color, texture, hardness and resistance to the passage of time. Discover that manually is possible create with glass was wonderful, you have just to know the proper technique without having to resort to an expensive industrial process.
The idea of Copón Reversible stems come up from a prior brainstorming to the workshop. The concept is to create an elegant and funny glass from different common glasses and chalices giving it a dual use according to the side you prefer to use.”

“We are surrounded by glass and I had not information about his work and no experience. Working with Bianca and Dani made me better understand all glass virtues and technical possibilities. And so now I can include this material in my design projects with greater confidence. Achieving these pieces with recycled bottles allowed me to understand the work of the cold glass. At the same time I realized that behind the simple reuse of bottles … lies a large manual effort however simple it may looks the end result!”

THE OCEAN BLUE

“I have been making sculptures for the better part of my life and I have worked with many different materials. As glass was a material I had never worked with, I was excited to have the opportunity to participate in the workshop with 40plumas. The theme was “the Kitchen” so I decided to make an oversized decorative knife and fork using transparent and ocean blue coloured glass. I made a mould out of plaster and then spread broken pieces of glass into the mould to be fired in the kiln. The process was very similar to other materials a sculptor may work with and I have to say-the end result is absolutely amazing. The texture, the translucency and the sheer presence of the finished pieces were inspiring. There’s a wide variety of types of glass which allow many varied end results and textures. Glass is an extremely versatile material and definitely not as fragile as one tends to think.”
